While tourist attractions like Sabang and White Beach are great, why not go to a quiet beach where no one is around for a while? Introducing Puerto Galera’s Small Tabinay and Big Tabinay Beach.
From the Port of Muelle, head towards the Puerto Galera supermarket and head further south through the market.
It’s about a 20-minute walk from the port of Muelle, and it costs about 10 pesos per person to get there by tricycle. It is a private area facing the east side of Mindoro Island, only known by those who know.
First, let’s introduce “Small Tabinay Beach”. You won’t find many tourists here, only a few people staying in hotels along the beach for a long time. The beach is white sand and small gravel and the waves are quiet. It’s the perfect place for a leisurely swim.
It is located to the east of Mindoro Island, so you can see the sunrise from the horizon. Plus, you can watch the moonrise. This is where I saw the moonrise for the first time in my life. This is truly inspiring.
If you stay for a while, you can often see the locals doing seine netting in the morning, evening and night. Most of them are small fish, and they are often divided among the locals. Occasionally, you can see big fish such as blue-green squid.
BBQ and self-catering travelers can also buy it on the spot.
One more cape over and you can get to “Big Tabinay Beach”. When you get to this point, it’s really a deserted beach.
This Big Tabinay neighborhood is sparsely populated, with only a few neighborhood kids to be seen. There is a river about 4 meters wide flowing into the area, and you can play in the fresh water. In some places, there are a few hot springs that are lukewarm.
There are quite a few fireflies here too. The light of fireflies is soothing for some reason. It’s a very nice place to live.
This was our introduction to Small & Big Tabinay Beach.
