Suman is a traditional Filipino snack made with coconut milk and glutinous rice. They are sold vacuum-packed in Puerto Galera supermarkets and markets. It has a shelf life of about two weeks. It’s a great way to take it home as a souvenir!

115 pesos (it was 120 pesos at the nearby stall).
The product name is “Suman sa Lihiya” and it is the NO.1 souvenir in Mindoro Island. “Pasalubong” means a souvenir.
This product is a pack of 12 sooters (about 5cm square). They are also available in half packs of six.
Serve warm in a steamer or microwave. It can be served cold, but it tastes better warm.
It seems to keep in the refrigerator for about two weeks or so. If you’re worried about it, I recommend you buy it just before you leave. (I bought it on May 12.)
A Coco Jam is included in the pack. It is a sweet sauce of brown sugar and coconut milk. I put this on my suman and eat it.
A photo of a banana with the leaves removed. The part that is a little green is just the color shift of the leaves, so it’s okay to take a bite.
Photo split in half. These are the size of a palm, but they’re packed with glutinous rice, so they’re quite filling!
Would you substitute white rice if you had no sauce? I thought and bought it. I thought it would be convenient because it can be refrigerated, but it doesn’t replace white rice. It wasn’t very sweet, but it was a sweets.
If you’re looking for a souvenir of a typical Filipino food in Puerto Galera, you’ll want to buy a pack of soumans at a reasonable price. I’m happy to say that it lasts a day. If you missed it during your trip, please take it as a souvenir!
