PUTO is a slightly sweet rice flour steamed bread that is perfect for breakfast or a snack. Filipino Sweets to Eat in Puerto Galera.

Introducing Puto, a traditional Filipino sweet that’s perfect for a quick bite to eat! Slightly sweet and just the right size. This fluffy rice flour steamed bread is perfect for breakfast or a snack.

What is PUTO?

PUTO is a traditional steamed pancake in the Philippines and is made from rice flour instead of wheat flour. According to my research, it is a common household breakfast or snack in the entire Philippines.

The first thing I ate was a simple white puto that my friend gave me as a gift. It seems that the vendor was selling them for 10 pesos each, and it seems that many of them are buying from the Mangyans.

After that, I searched for images…lots of colorful putos! It looks like a macaroon. It’s a simple sweet, but one that I want to find in many ways.

So we went around town looking for Puto. They’re sold for breakfast, so they’re often in the stores in the morning. We found two of them in a shop near the market in the center of Puerto Galera.

A pink Puto with a sweet pudding-like thing on top.

For 10 pesos each.

It’s fluffy and warm and delicious!

This is a pack of 10 small cute little Puto’s!

I also bought this one for 10 pesos a bag. Just the thing for a snack!

My favorite place to shop is in Puerto Galera, right in front of the fresh produce market. Many places prepare it for breakfast, so it’s best to look for it in the morning. It will sell out in the afternoon.

They are also sold in the morning at the market in Sabang Beach. But this one is a little higher and 15 pesos seems to be the market price.

Looking at the recipe site, there seems to be variations, some with butter, some with coconut milk, some with vanilla flavoring. There was also a purple potato ube flavor and a cheese puto.

It seems that there are some specialty shops in Manila that specialize in Puto! The color and form of the macarons are similar to those of the macarons in that they are cute and seem to be popular with women. You can also find them in Puerto Galera, so look for them while you’re traveling!
